This page is dedicated to our costume and make-up, featuring our experiments, research, and final outcomes.
Costume/Make-up Discussion
In this video we discussed various ideas for costume and make-up, specifically how the zombie make-up would look and how we would achieve this look.
RESEARCH
We liked the whole idea of having fake blood spread on the shirt as if the character has sustained injury, however the pale skin and dark eye bags appeared a bit cheap and gimmicky. Therefore we wouldn't be using this type of make up, however keep the idea of adding blood to clothing.

We used this video as a reference as Liquid Latex would play a large role when creating our zombie make-up. Although it smells terrible, it's extremely effective.

This video illustrates the technique of using various shades of blush and shadow to give a 'bruising' or 'ghostly' effect to the skin. This would be a useful technique to use when creating our zombie look, as various tones in the skin can give off the effect that a student is ill or changing into a zombie, or that they are injured.

This is another video showcasing the use of latex when making wounds or bites, however this goes into much more detail. This video also shows you how to create bullet wounds in the face, while also having blood (corn syrup) pouring out of the wound.

Make-up experiment #1This is a zombie make-up test made by Nhien using purely eye liner. As she has no previous experience in terms of horror make-up and considering she didn't have any of the necessary materials this is a great first attempt. As you can see this is the traditional style of zombie with rotting green skin, however we'll probably end up creating a more modern type of zombie as they need to keep the essence of a human while still being scary.

Make-up experiment #2This was another make-up test done purely using regular make-up. This test had a 'ghoul' type of theme. This won't be the kind of look used for our trailer, but performing make-up tests give ample practice so that we'll be ready when it's time to shoot our trailer.

Make-up experiment #3
This was our first experiment using liquid latex. We applied the latex, tissue paper to imitate mouldy skin, and then used foundation to blend the wounds in with the subject's skin tone.
When conducting this experiment we used Liquid Latex, tissue paper, talcum powder, and foundation to blend the wounds with skin tone.
Nhien also created a tutorial showcasing our method of creating infected wounds and scars.

Here are the finished results:
Costumes
These are our final costume designs for each character.
Max (who plays Max Hardy) will be wearing a school uniform, with his main prop and weapon being a baseball bat, representing how blunt and straightforward he is, and the brute strength he possesses
|
Peter (who plays Zack Wu) will be wearing a school uniform with smart jeans, showing that although he doesn't abide by the school dress code, he still acknowledges the fact that he has to look presentable. His prop will be a gun that he recovered off of a dead security guard in the school.
|
John (who plays Ethan Nguyen) will be wearing a school uniform, possibly without a tie to connote him wanting to break the rules and rebel, and also a pair of jeans. His weapon will also be a fire extinguisher representing his brute strength and practicality.

Pre-shoot Make-up
It's shooting day, and in this video Hannah is turning one of our actors into a zombie. We decided to follow the look of 'rotting or peeling' skin when creating our zombies. We used liquid latex, tissue paper, and various shades of foundation.
This is a slide show showing the processes and finished products of our zombies and injured students.
